Guild Wars 2 - Mini Divinity's Reach

Guild Wars 2 - Mini Divinity's Reach

Today I'll show you an artwork I did as a challenge.

I really failed on the first tries because I had to draw it... We had to change the rules so that I have to "vectorize" it! :D
The difficult part of this was to keep patience because there are so many details. Normally I need one or two evenings for one of my artworks but this was about six or seven. It is one of my biggest hobby-projects and I hope you like it!

Harry Potter - Hagrids Cabin

Hello my friends :)

I'm sorry for a long time of silence - but now I'm back with a very nice illustration of a cabin you all know! It's Hagrids cabin I illustrated with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop!

Pixel Zombie Apocalypse Game

Pixel Zombie Apocalypse Game

Do you remember my screens of some zombie apocalypse character designs? This is the way the game could look like.

I'm not sure yet if I prefer a survival game where you get hungry and cold or just a nice jump n run game where you can either sneak or burst through. What would you prefer?

Brick Landscape - Guild Wars 2: Mount Maelstrom

I'm playing Guild Wars 2 since release and I made a brick landscape of one of my favourite locations: Mount Maelstrom!

I captured my work - here you can see it in a time lapse.

How to create an autumn atmosphere

How to create an autumn atmosphere

Today it is a really dismal Saturday. Perfect to create a beautiful illustration with the positive sides of autumn.

Prepare yourself for gaussian blurs. And gaussian blurs. And gaussian blurs...

This is the image which will get an autumn atmosphere.

Duplicate this image in photoshop and use filter>blur>gaussian blur. Set this layers settings to soft light.

Create a colored layer - for example #f2cc8a - and erase the objects in the shadow. In my image it's the tree, the ground and the bench. This layer should have an opacity about 40%.

Add a nice vignette with a dark autumn brown color like #381706 and set the opacity to 63%.

For more drama I darkened the bottom of my image again.
My next step was to brighten the objects a little bit where the sun brightens them. Take a soft brush and color the edges white. Make sure that this is really smooth with another gaussian blur effect!
To get more red colors in my picture I added an adjustment layer with the option selective color. Check out the settings in the following image.

Now we have to generate atmosphere. COLORS!!! Add another adjustment layer with the option color balance. Settings are shown in the next image.

It looks lovely now but we want more! Group all what we've done and merge this group to one layer.
Duplicate this one and use another gaussian blur. Deselect the objects which have to me sharp with a mask like the child oder the bench oder the tree.
Create another adjustment layer which depends on your gaussian layer with the option hue/saturation and use the following settings.

Last but not least add another adjustment layer with the option exposure to get a bit more light.

That's it, have a look at my final image. I love it :)

3-colored Landscapes and how to give them shininess

3-colored Landscapes and how to give them shininess

Here you can see some landscapes where I used up to 3 colors with different transparency.

I like this kind of style because you can "complete" the landscapes in your mind and own way.

Some of you might want to know how I do these shiny effects on my images.
Here is the way I do it with Photoshop:

  1. First you have to duplicate your original image.
  2. On this layer I use Filter > Blur >Lens Blur (here you can try which settings you like most)
  3. Than set the layer setting to Soft Light and that's it.
  • The vignette is just a layer where I color the corners black and give them an opacity of 30%.
